The leading officer of Avon and Somerset Police has written on Linkedin that he feels “horror and concern” over the death of George Floyd, the man who died while being placed into the custody of law enforcement in America.

Andy Marsh says he feels “ashamed” to have the same occupation as the police man who knelt on Mr Floyds neck and killed him.

The Chief Superintendent also wrote that; “Silence in the face of injustice incriminates us all. Now is not the time for just more fine words, condemnation and calls for change.” And Andy Marsh says the force will redouble the work it’s already doing to contribute to a stronger, fairer society built on a foundation of equality for all
